Tampa Builder Bill Paul Chairs SEBC & Green Building Show

Bill Paul, Florida's 2008 Builder of the Year, is serving as Chair of the 31st annual Southeast Building Conference/Green Building Show presented by the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA) on July 30-August 1 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

"It's an honor to be associated with the South's largest regional building industry trade show and educational conference," said Paul, president of Phoenix Development and Construction in Tampa. "We're committed to giving builders and construction industry professionals the tools they need to survive and succeed in a very challenging environment."

Paul, who won FHBA's top individual honor last year for his service to the association, industry and community, said the conference theme is "The Road to Recovery" and believes the seminars, exhibits, and meet-the-experts sessions will help delegates with business-building strategies, including opportunities in green building. Ann Hagen, central Florida sales representative for the Bonded Builders Warranty Group, serves as Vice Chair of the SEBC/Green Building Show. The event's planning committee includes builders Karen Koelemij (Tallahassee), Bill Nolan (Orlando), George Hansford (Apopka), Barbara Revels (Flagler Beach), Tony Martin (Orlando), Nathan Cross (Orlando), and Ray Puzzitiello (West Palm Beach); and remodeler Richard Reynolds (Bradenton).

FHBA Summer Conference Set For SEBC/Green Building Show

The Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA) will hold its annual Summer Builders Conference July 30-August 2 in conjunction with the 31st annual Southeast Building Conference/Green Building Show in Orlando.

FHBA President Jay Carlson, a Port Charlotte builder, has announced that the Association's 250-member Board of Directors will meet on Sunday, August 2 at 9 a.m. (ET) at the Rosen Centre Hotel.

"This is an important conference at which we assess where we are as an industry and look forward to developing new and better ways to help our members on their road to recovery," said Carlson.

FHBA leaders will evaluate how housing fared in the 2009 Florida Legislative Session and release its "scorecard" of state legislators when its Governmental Affairs Committee meets on Saturday, August 1 at 8 a.m. (ET) at the Orange County Convention Center.

    Other Association-related events at the conference include:
  • An opening ceremonies video update of the Future Builders of America (FBA) program (Thursday, July 30, 8 a.m. at the Convention Center).
  • Presentation of the first Robert & Amy Harper Award to an individual who has fostered the growth of the FHBA Foundation and FBA (opening ceremonies).
  • A "State-of-the-Industry Message" and report on the work of the National Association of Home Builders by special guest and NAHB First Vice Chairman Bob Jones of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (Thursday, July 30, 7 p.m., NAHB Directors Dinner at the Rosen Centre).
  • Announcement of the 2009 inductees into the Florida Housing Hall of Fame (Board of Directors meeting).

SEBC/Green Building Show Offers 13 Designation Courses

If you want to gain credibility and customers through attainment of a professional designation, the 31st annual Southeast Building Conference (SEBC)/Green Building Show has just what you need.

Scheduled for July 29-August 2 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, the SEBC/Green Building Show offers 13 intensive courses leading to such business-building designations as Certified Green Professional (CGP), Certified-Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), Certified Graduate Builder (CGB), and Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR), among others.

Complete details of all the courses, and a convenient online registration process, are available online at www.sebcshow.com. Industry members do not need to register for the entire conference to take one or more of the intensive courses.

The course lineup, presented in conjunction with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) University of Housing, includes Green Building for Building Professionals (a two-day course), Marketing and Communications Strategies for Aging in Place (CAPS I), Customer Service, Diversification: Capitalizing on New Business Opportunities, Profitable Business Through Quality Practices, Design/Build Solutions for Aging and Accessibility (CAPS II), Train the Trainer, Financial Management, Business Management for Building Professionals, and Negotiating Skills.

For the time ever, SEBC is presenting two advanced courses in the Residential Construction Superintendent (RCS) program, sponsored by Home Builders Institute, the workforce training arm of NAHB. The courses are Collaborating with Challenging Customers and Best Practices in Running a Successful Job.

NAHB Leader Bob Jones Presents 'State of the Industry' at the SEBC

Three National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Senior Officers - led by First Vice Chairman Robert R. "Bob" Jones of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan - will present "State of the Industry" remarks during a special NAHB Directors Dinner on Thursday evening, July 30, 2009 during the Southeast Building Conference (SEBC)/Green Building Show in Orlando.

The dinner, which will be held at the Rosen Centre Hotel, is recommended for members of the NAHB Board of Directors and open to all industry professionals. Tickets can be purchased online at www.sebcshow.com.

Jones, who earned a reputation for custom home building excellence in a 35-year career, will address federal legislation impacting the building industry, present the latest economic outlook, and discuss NAHB's role in green building.

He will be joined by NAHB Third Vice Chairman Barry Rutenberg of Gainesville, Florida and NAHB Immediate Past President Sandy Dunn of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Rutenberg will offer an update on construction and development financing while Dunn will cover appraisal issues.

The dinner is hosted by Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA) President Jay Carlson of Port Charlotte, Florida; NAHB Area V Vice Chairman Chuck Fowke of Tampa; and Florida's NAHB State Representative Karen Koelemij of Tallahassee, Florida.
